Laura Pegram is a multi-hyphenate artist who is influencing a new generation of aspiring writers. She’s an author, educator, painter, and a jazz vocalist whose cabaret performance teamed her with jazz pianist Donald Smith. Her richly hued vibrant murals are part of several private collections. Pegram was mentored by the poet activist June Jordan, who taught her that the sky was her ceiling. She is the founding editor and publisher of the award-winning literary magazine, Kweli Journal.
